
Paul Verschuer

Paul Verschuer was the inaugural Chief Executive of AEMO Services Limited (ASL), a corporation he designed, established and led for the New South Wales (NSW) Government and AEMO, the Australian Energy Market Operator. ASL was created to manage and incentivize an efficient energy transition for NSW as its increasingly unprofitable coal fired power stations reached the end of their technical lives. In 2023 ASL was appointed by the Australian government to perform a similar function for the Commonwealth.

Prior government roles included General Manager, Treasury Corporation for NSW, and Deputy Secretary, Treasury, for the Australian Government. Paul was the representative member for Australia on the G20 Financial Stability Board (FSB), a member of Australia’s Council of Financial Regulators, and a member of the NSW Asset and Liability Committee (ALCo). Earlier in his career (2008 – 2012) he chaired the Australian Reserve Bank’s (RBA) FX Committee, and was the Australian representative at the global central banks annual meetings on Foreign Exchange.

Paul’s substantive career was in banking. Working for Westpac from 2004 to 2016, appointed to the Executive Team of the Institutional Bank in 2006 he was responsible for the global financial markets businesses, inclusive of Commodities and Energy. Prior to joining Westpac Paul worked at Macquarie Bank, Bankers Trust and ZCM.

Paul has a Bachelors Degree in Science (Pure Mathematics), and Masters Degrees in Arts (Communication) and International Relations
